Road Trip Therapy

Not every one enjoys a good road trip. I however LOVE Them. I honestly don't even care if its a bad road trip. A bad road trip is probably just an interesting adventure!

I have what they call wanderlust. Wanderlust is defined as "the desire to wander". I love to wander, I love to meander, I love to stroll. As long as I'm moving towards something I'm pretty happy. Add some mountains and trees and a stream or water and I'm in heaven.

I do not do well with a stagnant lifestyle. This has been proven in the last 5 years. In the last 2 years while I worked in 2 separate parts of Alaska and had a brief road trip on both ends of the season, I didn't get to wander. It was a direct trip in which there was a definite start and finish and very little time for exploring or shutting my brain down.

I've determined that I have to do this. I can't live a "normal" life. I love being able to break my time into several different seasons, areas, jobs, etc. I need to have wandering time. I didn't get wandering time when I was younger. Most people get over this extreme stage when they start settling down and starting families etc. I didn't get to wander as a child. I was too much of a people pleaser, not worried about what made me happy. Well sorry folks but my time has come!

This year I decided that I was going to take a break. I needed a few weeks off so that I wouldn't sell my dogs, so that I could unwind and reflect from the last BUSY summer season. I'm a workoholic. I will admit that. I like to be busy and if I'm getting paid for it that's a bonus. So a busy summer season is a good season to me. I fit in fun things to do but to be honest I like to work and be productive. BUT I can't do it all the time. I'm starting to listen to my body and my mind. I am a horrible crabby person when I get stressed out and don't know what to do about it. So we are trying something this year.

Three weeks. Two Boxers and a Tahoe. And the open road. Right now we are on day 13, I've driven about 5500 miles, crossed Canada, been in 5 different states and have seen friends and family. This trip was a little stressful as my main reason for going was to clean out my storage unit in Minnesota. BUT I accomplished that and the rest was just icing on the cake. I still have about 3000 miles left to get home, but I have a few more things I want to see before I make the trek back.

Traveling down the open road, is so therapeutic for me. I don't know whey but it always has. Seeing the different scenes and being some place new every day just makes me happy.

I'm already planning my trip for next year...stay tuned as always!!
